Extra-Long Staple cotton in comparison to the more widely grown Upland cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum) is generally defined as the finer, longer and stronger fibre harvested in the U.S. from November through January/February of the proceeding year of the Pima cotton plants (Gossypium Barbadense) sown in March and April. Cotton of similar fibre characteristics is also produced in China, Egypt, India and Peru.
